Soetardjo complains about colleagues<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A parliamentary leader expressed his disappointment
\nover the attitude of present parliamentary members here on Friday
\nsaying that they are now more interested in their group's or
\nparty's interest rather than the people's.<\/p>\n
\"Their education is indeed higher than past members' but it is
\nmore difficult now to find statesmen among them,\" Deputy Speaker
\nof the House of Representatives (DPR) Soetardjo Soerjogoeritno
\nsaid in a discussion forum.<\/p>\n
Referring to a case to show the parliament members' poor
\nattitude, Soetardjo said that once a plenary session was only
\nattended by 43 out of the House's 500 members while the session
\nhad been scheduled to make an important decision.<\/p>\n
The head of the Forum to Coordinate People's Concern about
\nParliament, Tommy Legowo, said the rate of DPR members' presence
\nat sessions was below 50 percent.<\/p>\n
Soetardjo admitted that the tasks and authority of the DPR
\nmembers had increased and he referred to their task of
\nformulating draft laws which formerly used to be done mostly by
\nthe government and their task of conducting fit and proper tests
\non public officials.<\/p>\n
