        "content": "<p>Soeharto&apos;s views on Bogor&apos;s declaration win support<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Economic leaders from Japan, Singapore and<br>\nTaiwan came out in support yesterday of President Soeharto&apos;s<br>\nviews on the declaration to be adopted by APEC leaders in Bogor<br>\ntomorrow, a senior Indonesian official said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, Singaporean Premier<br>\nGoh Chok Tong and Taiwan State Minister Vincent Siew met<br>\nseparately with Soeharto yesterday to discuss the final<br>\npreparations of the APEC economic leaders meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Minister\/State Secretary Moerdiono told journalists that<br>\nMurayama, who arrived here on Saturday, also affirmed his<br>\ncommitment to help make the meeting a success.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I would like to stress that the Bogor declaration will be the<br>\nconclusion of the economic leaders&apos; views as presented by their<br>\nspecial delegates,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Moerdiono said Soeharto and Murayama agreed to strengthen<br>\ntheir cooperation in the future. The prime minister also<br>\nreaffirmed Japan&apos;s commitment to continuing assistance, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Japan is Indonesia&apos;s largest donor through the Consultative<br>\nGroup on Indonesia (CGI), a consortium of aid donor countries. It<br>\nis also the largest investor in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>On a separate occasion, a spokesman for the Japanese foreign<br>\nministry, Takeshi Nakane, confirmed the discussion about the<br>\nBogor declaration between Soeharto and Murayama.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;This (declaration draft) is subject to further deliberation<br>\nby the leaders,&quot; he said. But he added he was &quot;not in a position<br>\nto disclose the conversation about this matter.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Prime Minister Murayama stated that Japan hopes an informal<br>\nleaders meeting can take place next year as well, and President<br>\nSoeharto supported this hope,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Moerdiono said that the President received Taiwan&apos;s Siew in<br>\nthe framework of APEC economic leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia has a one-China policy and has refrained from<br>\ninviting Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui&apos;s to attend the economic<br>\nleaders meeting in Bogor to avoid any possibility of offending<br>\nChina.
