Soeharto's health to be checked again<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Prosecutors on Tuesday instructed a team of
\ndoctors from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) to conduct a
\ncomplete medical check-up on Soeharto to determine once and for
\nall if questioning of the former president can be resumed.<\/p>\n
The order for a thorough medical check came as officials
\ncontinued to confiscate documents relating to four of Soeharto's
\ncharitable foundations and formal notification of the extension
\nof his city arrest status for another 40 days was given.<\/p>\n
Attorney General Marzuki Darusman said a comprehensive medical
\nexamination was necessary after a doctor suggested that one be
\nconducted as the first check-up at the Cipto was a limited
\nexamination.<\/p>\n
"We have to analyze whether he is fit enough to resume
\nquestioning," Marzuki said without mentioning when the check-up
\nwas due to take place.<\/p>\n
Soeharto is suspected of allegedly abusing his power when
\npresident by issuing decrees and regulations to amass funds for
\nhis foundations.<\/p>\n
After confiscating papers relating to the Supersemar
\nFoundation last week, prosecutors on Tuesday further confiscated
\ndocuments relating to another two foundations -- Dana Karya Abadi
\nand Dana Sejahtera Mandiri -- for use as evidence in the case
\nthey are building.<\/p>\n
On Monday they took documents relating to the Dharmais
\nFoundation.<\/p>\n
Separately, a team of state prosecutors led by director of the
\ninvestigation Ris Pandapotan Sihombing officially presented the
\npapers notifying the extension of Soeharto's city arrest to
\ndefense lawyer Juan Felix Tampubolon at the former president's
\nresidence in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The extension is valid for 40 days, from Wednesday May 3 to
\nJune 11.<\/p>\n
Marzuki had earlier said it would be effective for 20 days.<\/p>\n
Attorney General's Office spokesman Yushar Yahya said the
\nextension was signed by the deputy head of the Jakarta
\nProsecutor's Office Suroyo on April 28.<\/p>\n
"The Attorney General's Office authority to place someone
\nunder city arrest is only for the first 20 days. Extensions
\nshould come from the provincial prosecutor's office," he
