        "content": "<p>Soeharto unveils RI&apos;s plan to appoint consul in Zagreb<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto told visiting Croatian Prime<br>\nMinister Zlatko Matesa yesterday that Indonesia is considering<br>\nappointing an honorary consul in Zagreb.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia, which recognized Croatian independence on May 16,<br>\n1992, does not have an official representative office in its<br>\ncapital of Zagreb. Representation is accredited to the Indonesian<br>\nEmbassy in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>Croatia formally opened its embassy here in March; Zeljko<br>\nKirincic is its first ambassador.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are now considering appointing an honorary consul to<br>\nZagreb quickly,&quot; Soeharto said in an address at the state banquet<br>\nheld for Matesa at the State Palace. The President did not<br>\nelaborate who the nominees would be.<\/p>\n<p>Soeharto also expressed hope that the private business sectors<br>\nof Indonesia and Croatia would take concrete steps to realize the<br>\neconomic agreements the two governments will sign this morning.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We hope the private sector will play an active role in<br>\nforging trade ties promoting the two countries&apos; export<br>\nactivities,&quot; the President was quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Soeharto said Croatia and Indonesia have strong potentials in<br>\nboth natural and human resources which can be exploited to the<br>\nmaximum to strengthen relations.<\/p>\n<p>The President also noted the two countries were trying to<br>\nformulate several other bilateral agreements on trade, investment<br>\nand double taxation avoidance.<\/p>\n<p>Matesa arrived here yesterday for a state visit which will<br>\nconclude on March 2. His visit is not only aimed at boosting the<br>\ntwo countries&apos; economic ties but also at strengthening overall<br>\nrelations.<\/p>\n<p>Matesa is accompanied by Minister of Economic Affairs Davor<br>\nStern, Minister of Tourism Niko Bulic and Minister of Sea<br>\nTransportation Zeljko Lvzavec.<\/p>\n<p>This morning, Matesa will conduct official talks with<br>\nSoeharto. Following their 90-minute parley, the two leaders will<br>\nwitness the signing of an agreement on economic and technical<br>\ncooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will be signed by Stern and Indonesian Minister<br>\nof Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas.<\/p>\n<p>During the state banquet, Soeharto also hailed the peace<br>\nagreement signed in Dayton, USA, by the Balkan states.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We believe the Dayton agreement, which was also signed by<br>\nCroatia, has helped create peace and stability in the Balkan<br>\nregion,&quot; said Soeharto who visited Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina<br>\nin 1995.<\/p>\n<p>Croatia and Bosnia are former members of Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier yesterday, Minister\/State Secretary Moerdiono pointed<br>\nout that Croatia could serve as a gateway for Indonesian products<br>\ninto Eastern Europe.
