Soeharto to leave for APEC<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto will leave on Sunday morning
\nfor Manila to attend the annual leadership meeting of the Asia
\nPacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, Minister\/State
\nSecretary Moerdiono said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The APEC summit will be held in Subic, a booming industrial
\ntown build on a former U.S. military base southwest of Manila, on
\nNov. 24 and Nov. 25.<\/p>\n
Moerdiono said the President will hold bilateral meetings with
\nSingaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and Chinese President
\nJiang Zemin, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Soeharto hosted the second APEC summit in Bogor in 1994.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian leader will meet some of those present in
\nManila later next week when he hosts the informal summit
\ninvolving 10 Southeast Asian leaders.<\/p>\n
From Manila, the news agency also reported that Soeharto will
\nbe staying at the Manila Hotel on Roxas Boulevard.<\/p>\n
U.S. President Bill Clinton will be staying at the same hotel.<\/p>\n
Moerdiono did not say whether Soeharto will meet with Clinton
\non this occasion.<\/p>\n
From Washington, a group of environmental and human rights
\norganizations urged Clinton on Thursday to raise the
\nenvironmental issue should he meet with Soeharto in Manila,
\nReuters reported.<\/p>\n
Clinton also received demands from his Democratic Party and a
\ngroup of U.S. senators to raise the question of East Timor with
