Soeharto ruling next month<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: State prosecutors are still conducting a legal
\nevaluation and holding discussions with an independent medical
\nteam from the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) as
\nregards former president Soeharto's legal status.<\/p>\n
\"Hopefully, by the end of this month or early September (we)
\nwill have decided on the legal steps that will be taken against
\nthe New Order leader,\" Attorney General's Office spokesman Barman
\nZahir was quoted by Antara as saying on Friday.<\/p>\n
A team of physicians from the RSCM had also previously carried
\nout tests on Soeharto, a suspect in a criminal case involving the
\nmisappropriation of taxpayers' money by the foundations he
\nchaired.<\/p>\n
His prosecution was halted in 2001 due to his alleged frail
\nhealth.<\/p>\n
According to Barman, state prosecutors were still evaluating
\nthe Soeharto case -- both from the legal and medical points of
\nview -- and the results would be submitted to senior officials in
\nthe Attorney General's Office who would then determine his legal
\nstatus.<\/p>\n
Akhmal Thahir, head of the team of physicians, said earlier
\nthat the former strongman had speaking and reading difficulties,
\nand could not answer questions consisting of more than four
