Soeharto not articulate enough<\/p>\n
Nothing new or special was announced in the latest reports on
\n(former president) Soeharto's health by the Attorney General's
\nOffice on Monday.<\/p>\n
The team of (Soeharto's) doctors said that the former strong
\nman could not communicate normally. He could not put together
\nlong sentences, according to the doctors.<\/p>\n
However, the doctors did not suggest or conclude whether or
\nnot Soeharto could stand trial, as they have no legal right to do
\nthat. It is the Attorney General's Office which has the authority
\nto decide if Soeharto is ready for trials.<\/p>\n
The legal proceedings against Soeharto have been like a
\ncomplicated opera. He has been questioned many times, but in the
\nend, all the legal proceedings have failed.<\/p>\n
Even if the current trial against him could run smoothly, the
\nproblem would not be solved completely because he was charged
\nonly for alleged corruption through the seven foundations he
\nheaded.<\/p>\n
He was not charged with power abuse or violations of human
\nrights or other greater offenses.<\/p>\n
There must be a legal breakthrough to deal with Soeharto's
\ncase properly. If this legal mess continues to linger without any
\nsolution it would confuse people and cause even further apathy
\nabout our judicial system.<\/p>\n
