        "content": "<p>Soeharto busy in Copenhagen<\/p>\n<p>COPENHAGEN (JP): President Soeharto got down to business<br>\nstraight away yesterday morning, after his 16-hour flight from<br>\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Settling down at the Hotel D'Angleterre, Soeharto received a<br>\nprogress report from Coordinating Minister of People's Welfare<br>\nAzwar Anas and Minister of Social Services Inten Suweno about the<br>\non-going World Conference on Social Development.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian head of state has been appointed one of the<br>\nvice presidents of the UN summit, which opens on Saturday.<br>\nSoeharto, along with leaders from the Philippines, China, South<br>\nKorea, India and Qatar, has been selected to represent Asia.<\/p>\n<p>He is scheduled to address the gathering of about 130 world<br>\nleaders on the opening day in his capacity as the Indonesian<br>\nPresident as well as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement.<\/p>\n<p>Soeharto ordered Indonesia's top diplomats and his staff to<br>\nkeep him abreast of the situation in war-ravaged Bosnia-<br>\nHerzegovina ahead of his visit to the besieged capital of<br>\nSarajevo next Monday, his aides said.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian leader will be conducting state affairs from<br>\nhis Copenhagen hotel suite for the next four days. Besides<br>\nattending the summit, he will also be holding meetings with a<br>\nnumber of leaders who are also in town.<\/p>\n<p>Later yesterday, Soeharto was scheduled to meet with Ave Sven<br>\nBruun, a leader of the Danish cooperative movement, and Algerian<br>\npresident Liamine Zeroual.<\/p>\n<p>Today, his schedule includes meetings with Philippine<br>\npresident Fidel Ramos, Polish president Lech Walesa, Madagascar's<br>\nprime minister Francique Ravony and Bangladeshi prime minister<br>\nBegum Khaleda Zia. He will also take part in a mini-summit of<br>\nleaders of the world's nine most populous countries to discuss<br>\nthe program of \"education for all\".<\/p>\n<p>Also on his schedule during his stay in Copenhagen<br>\nare meetings with Chinese prime minister Li Peng and Turkish<br>\npresident Suleiman Demirel.
