        "content": "<p>Social security fund should be repaid to the workers: Expert<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA (JP): The Rp 6 trillion (about US$600 million)<br>\nstate social security fund should be repaid to the workers who<br>\ncontributed to it to help alleviate their hardship in this time<br>\nof crisis, an expert has proposed.<\/p>\n<p>Tadjuddin Noer Effendi, an advisor to the minister of<br>\nmanpower, said Wednesday that as millions of workers had already<br>\nlost and more would lose their jobs, the cash would mean a lot to<br>\nthem.<\/p>\n<p>The labor-intensive programs that the government has initiated<br>\nbenefit mostly blue color workers; middle and upper level<br>\nemployees who lose their jobs find it more difficult to obtain<br>\nnew employment, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tadjuddin, who is a senior researcher at Gadjah Mada<br>\nUniversity's Population Studies Center, said the rightful owners<br>\nof the fund that the government manages as working capital were<br>\nthose who contributed to it.<\/p>\n<p>\"Repaying the money would be better than using it to pay House<br>\nof Representatives members deliberating labor laws (as recently<br>\nhappened),\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tadjuddin hailed the labor-intensive schemes the government<br>\nhas sponsored to alleviate poverty in the wake of the prolonged<br>\neconomic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Such projects, he said, were necessary to help ease social<br>\ntension caused by soaring prices and mounting unemployment.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is a good short-term solution for blue-collar workers,<br>\nsuch as construction laborers.
