Social Minister (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, has expressed\nappreciation for the performance of Minister of Immigration and\nCorrections (Imipas) Agus Andrianto regarding the improvement of\ncorrectional institutions (lapas). He stated that Minister Agus\u2019s\nstrategy has had a positive impact on the correctional environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cMinister\u2019s strategy to address various issues in the correctional\nenvironment has begun to show results,\u201d said Gus Ipul at the\nThanksgiving Event for the 62nd Corrections Day with the theme\n\u2018Corrections: Real Work for Prime Service\u2019 at the Auditorium of the\nImmigration and Corrections Polytechnic Campus, Tangerang, Banten, on\nMonday (27\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
The issues that Gus Ipul noted as showing improvement include\novercrowding in prisons and handling violations, both by rogue officers\nand inmates in detention centres and prisons.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow to address the overcrowding problem, then the violations, all of\nthat we see as part of the Minister\u2019s strategy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
At this event, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of\nCorrections signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening\nthe provision of healthcare services for correctional inmates. The\ncontext involves the provision of National Health Insurance, social\nprotection, and decentralisation. It is hoped that public services will\nbecome more integrated, expansive, sustainable, and impactful on\nimproving societal welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the new face of our corrections, not just confining but\nbuilding, not just suppressing but empowering,\u201d said Minister Agus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis noble step can only be realised through hard work, commitment\nfrom all corrections personnel, and of course cross-sectoral\ncollaboration,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Returning to Gus Ipul, he mentioned that the rehabilitation of\ninmates prioritising empowerment and the seriousness of internal\ndiscipline by the Ministry of Corrections is concrete evidence of the\ngovernment\u2019s efforts in building the correctional system. According to\nhim, conditions in the correctional environment are becoming more\norderly, professional, and humane because there is recognition for\ninmates who serve their sentences well. There is also recognition for\nemployees who perform their duties well.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very evident in the report presented earlier, and of course I\nappreciate it. I give my respect for the continuously improving work,\nwhich is quite good, and the results are starting to be felt,\u201d said Gus\nIpul.<\/p>\n
The 62nd Corrections Day commemoration serves as a momentum to\nstrengthen synergy between institutions so that services to the\ncommunity, including inmates, become better, more professional, and on\ntarget.<\/p>\n
