Poor people have become increasingly distressed and lead an
\neven more difficult existence following the latest fuel price
\nrise. Even before the fuel price hike, the majority already had
\ndifficulty in making a living.<\/p>\n
Kompas also reported in October that taxi drivers now have
\nfewer passengers, while gasoline is more expensive and they spend
\na lot more on daily needs.<\/p>\n
Under such circumstances, distributing the fuel subsidy
\ncompensation fund or direct cash aid to needy people also creates
\na problem. Old grannies queuing for the cash aid often collapse.
\nWhy isn't it distributed to their homes instead of being pooled
\nat district offices?<\/p>\n
By allocating the fund door-to-door, this public money will
\nnot be misappropriated and district personnel will see for
\nthemselves the hardship experienced by ordinary people and the
\nhomes that fall far below the proper standards for decent living.<\/p>\n
Not surprisingly, criminals are now at large and luxury cars
\nare among their main targets. Therefore, the phenomenon not only
\ninvolves the problem of facing a tough existence but also the
\ngrowing seeds of social envy, amid the race among the haves to
\namass wealth and take care of their personal interests.<\/p>\n
