Snatcher on bus gets 10 months<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A judge at the Central Jakarta District Court
\nsentenced on Monday a 24-year-old man to 10 months in jail for a
\nrobbery at a bus last October.<\/p>\n
\"The defendant, Azhari Akbar, robbed Liliyanti Widjaya, on
\nOct. 12, as she was sitting on the bus plying the Senen-Cimone
\nroute,\" said judge Chasiyani Tanjung.<\/p>\n
\"The bus was queuing at the Senen bus terminal in Central
\nJakarta.\"<\/p>\n
The judge said Azhari, along with a friend identified as Kris,
\nforced the witness to hand over her valuables, including her
\nrings, in the empty bus.<\/p>\n
\"The witness rejected the defendant's request. But after the
\ndefendant pointed a pair of scissors at her and threatened her
\nnot to scream for help, the witness gave two gold rings and a
\nwristwatch to the defendant,\" said the judge.<\/p>\n
Judge Chasiyani said the criminals disembarked from the bus
\nafter taking the valuable items.<\/p>\n
\"Soon after the two disembarked from the bus, the witness
\nalerted the crowd by shouting. People at the terminal then
\ncaptured Azhari, while Kris managed to escape,\" said the judge.
\nKris remains at large.<\/p>\n
\"The defendant has to go to jail, even though he did not enjoy
\nthe results of the robbery,\" the judge said.<\/p>\n
