Some people say that a fine of Rp 50 million to be imposed on
\npeople who smoke in public places is absurd. However, I believe
\nit is now time for the Jakarta city administration to have its
\nown bylaw that bans smoking in public places. Jakarta residents,
\nin particular, and Indonesians, in general, must respect other
\npeople in their own surroundings and maintain their environment
\nin a good condition.<\/p>\n
It would be a good idea if later people not only refrain from
\nsmoking in public places but also in houses. In short, the city
\nadministration's by law on banning smoking in public places must
\nbe supported by smokers and non-smokers alike. Of course, there
\nshould be smoking areas for smokers.<\/p>\n
So, Governor Sutiyoso must press ahead with this bylaw.
\nRegarding the fine, it must be set as high as possible to ensure
\ncompliance with the bylaw in question.<\/p>\n
When this bylaw on banning smoking in public places has been
\nproperly enforced, we must also ask the governor to hang people
\nfor corruption offences because they violate the law and could
\ncause the country to go bankrupt.<\/p>\n
If the government dare not hang corruptors, then a people's
\ncourt could do it for them.<\/p>\n
