        "content": "<p>Small-scale industries to be regulated<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will register all<br>\nsmall-scale and home industries in Jakarta to monitor their<br>\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>The City Statistics Office chief, Poniman Suhartono, said<br>\nyesterday his office will deploy 102 officials, who were trained<br>\nfor the purpose from Nov. 16 to Nov. 24 at the Ragunan Youth<br>\nCenter, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Poniman said the census will begin next month<\/p>\n<p>He asked small-scale business people to help the<br>\nregistration officials by giving them accurate and verifiable<br>\ndata.<\/p>\n<p>He said the census has nothing to do with taxes, levies, or<br>\nthe ownership of land and buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Poniman also told to The Jakarta Post yesterday that the<br>\noffice is now preparing to participate in the 1995 National<br>\nSocial and Economic Survey.<\/p>\n<p>The 1995 Census will be conducted throughout the country's<br>\n27 provinces. The census will record household and education<br>\nactivities, health and fertility conditions, participation in the<br>\nfamily planning program and spending.<\/p>\n<p>Poniman did not say when the 1995 census will start.<\/p>\n<p>Poniman said that the result of the 1995 census will be used<br>\nto compile various statistical records on people's welfare,<br>\neducation, health and housing.<\/p>\n<p>1995 census<\/p>\n<p>Poniman said 250 officials will conduct the 1995 census in<br>\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the 1993 census, 98 percent of the people in<br>\nJakarta aged between seven to 12 years were elementary school<br>\nstudents and 89 percent of the people aged from 13 to 15 years<br>\nwere junior high school students.<\/p>\n<p>Poniman also said that 1993's census had revealed that in<br>\nthe age group ranging from 19 to 24 years old, 69 percent were<br>\nsenior high school students, while the remainder were university<br>\nstudents.<\/p>\n<p>Among people over 10 years old, 64.7 percent were workers,<br>\n18.9 percent self-employed businessmen, 9.8 percent businessmen<br>\nlinked to seasonal sectors, 4.6 percent people who work in family<br>\nbusinesses, and 2 percent businessmen with employees.<\/p>\n<p>Poniman also said the 1993 census stated that 42.78 percent<br>\nof total spending by Jakartans went for food, while the remaining<br>\n57.22 percent was used for various purposes, such as housing,<br>\nhousehold goods and services.<\/p>\n<p>He said that in 1993, 10.31 percent of the total population<br>\nin Jakarta were job seekers.
