        "content": "<p>Small parties demand poll delay<\/p>\n<p>JAMBI, Jambi: Following a recent legal revision allowing small<br>\nparties to nominate candidates for regional elections, several<br>\nparties in Jambi asked the local General Elections Commission<br>\n(KPUD) to delay the elections.<\/p>\n<p>The parties are seeking a delay to give them time to prepare<br>\nfor the elections, said the spokesman of the Prosperous Justice<br>\nParty in Jambi, Syarifuddin Dwi Aprianto.<\/p>\n<p>However, a member of the Jambi KPUD, Abdul Rasyid, said the<br>\nelections could not be delayed because the law on regional<br>\nautonomy demanded the Jambi governor be inaugurated in June.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the legal revision, only parties that had seats in<br>\nregional councils were allowed to nominate candidates for<br>\nregional elections. However, the Constitutional Court recently<br>\nruled that parties without seats in regional councils could<br>\nnominate candidates if they formed a coalition of parties that<br>\nwon at least 15 percent of the total votes in the last general<br>\nelection. -- JP<\/p>",
