Small businesses get new center<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Dharma Bhakti Astra Foundation, in cooperation
\nwith related government institutions and private firms, has
\nestablished the country's first small business development center
\nin Padang, West Sumatra.<\/p>\n
The director general of small enterprises from the Ministry of
\nCooperatives and Small Enterprises, Anwar Supriyadi, inaugurated
\nthe center Saturday.<\/p>\n
"This center is the first of its kind in Indonesia and should
\nbe a model for other provinces," Supriyadi said in a ceremony
\nattended by West Sumatra governor Hasan Basri Durin and other
\nprovincial officials.<\/p>\n
Supriyadi also inaugurated a building owned by PT Aneka Mitra
\nIndoguna and an office for West Sumatra's Metal Small Industries
\nAssociation.<\/p>\n
Supriyadi said the business development center should help
\nexisting small businesses and cooperatives, and help create new
\nentrepreneurs in the province.<\/p>\n
The center will be coordinated by the Ministry of Manpower,
\nbut its programs will be overseen by the Ministry of Cooperatives
\nand Small Enterprises.<\/p>\n
The center has a building and training facilities, especially
\nfor small businesses and cooperatives -- all donated by the
\nfoundation.<\/p>\n
The foundation's vice chairman Aminuddin said 10 tenants from
\nsmall businesses and cooperatives were already using the center's
\nfacilities.<\/p>\n
They would go through a program, which would include
\nmanagement training, consultation, a workshop and a comparative
\nstudy, Aminuddin said.<\/p>\n
State-owned cement firm PT Semen Padang and coal miner PT
\nTambang Batu Bara Bukit Asam's Ombilin production center have
\nalso committed to supporting the center's operation, he said.<\/p>\n
Aminuddin said the foundation also offered training and
\nguidance to small enterprises which supply products and services
\nto Semen Padang.<\/p>\n
Their products and services to Semen Padang were worth Rp 2.7
\nbillion (US$1 million) in the first semester of this year alone.
