SMA Santa Ursula Jakarta has been crowned the regional winner for\nEast Asia in the 11th global video-making competition \u2018Your World\u2019,\nthemed \u2018Smarter Choice, Stronger Future\u2019, which is part of the British\nCouncil Partner School programme. According to a British Council press\nrelease in Jakarta on Friday, the video entry titled \u2018SNAP Week: Our\nSolution to Responsible Consumption\u2019 excelled due to its sharpness in\nidentifying the problem of plastic waste and its presentation of the\nSNAP (Say No to All Plastic and Paper Waste) initiative as a creative\nand practical solution. The British Council stated that the project was\njudged to be well-organised, visually engaging, conveyed a message that\nwas easy to understand and relevant, and demonstrated real impact\nthrough observable behavioural changes within the school\nenvironment.<\/p>\n
British Council Country Director Indonesia and Director Southeast\nAsia, Summer Xia, said it was a very proud moment for Indonesia, marking\nthe country\u2019s first victory in the East Asia region in this competition.\n\u2018What is truly inspiring is not just the idea itself, but how these\nstudents realised it collaboratively, thinking critically, and tackling\nreal challenges with practical solutions,\u2019 she said. \u2018This is a powerful\nreminder that when young people are equipped with the right skills and\nopportunities, they have the confidence and ability to shape a more\nsustainable future for all of us,\u2019 she added.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, SMA Santa Ursula Jakarta student representative Marsha\nSaputra expressed hope that the project would inspire other young people\nto realise that simple actions can create meaningful change. Marsha\nexplained that initially the team focused on finding solutions for waste\nthat had already been produced, but that focus shifted after numerous\nconsultation sessions, discussions and revisions. \u2018We realised that the\nreal solution is not managing waste better, but preventing it from being\ncreated in the first place. That shift in mindset became the core idea\nof our project, SNAP Week,\u2019 Marsha said.<\/p>\n
The 11th Your World competition highlighted sustainable consumption\nand production, while encouraging students to sharpen their critical\nthinking, creativity and communication skills through applied learning\nto address real-world challenges.
