Slaughterhouse blackout slammed<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang regency office has protested to
\nstate-owned electricity company PLN about it disconnecting the
\npower supply to a pig slaughterhouse operated by the regency in
\nBatuceper district.<\/p>\n
Spokesperson for the regency office, Ena Karlina, said
\nyesterday that the protest had been addressed to the head of the
\nlocal PLN branch office. PLN has denied responsibility.<\/p>\n
\"If PLN had not cut off the electricity, then the problem
\ncould have been settled amicably,\" Ena said.<\/p>\n
Head of PLN's Tangerang office, Hari Suharso, earlier denied
\nthat his company had cut off the electricity at the Sawen
\nslaughterhouse last Friday.<\/p>\n
He said the power had been cut off by officers from the
\nTangerang mayoralty.<\/p>\n
\"We regret that the mayoralty did not inform us about it,\"
\nHari said.<\/p>\n
Ena said the regency's husbandry office received a letter on
\nDec. 5 from the Tangerang mayoralty telling it to immediately
\nclose down the slaughterhouse.<\/p>\n
But, she said the mayoralty officers closed down the
\nslaughterhouse and cut off the electricity on the same day.<\/p>\n
\"We do not condemn the closing of the slaughterhouse, but it
\nshould have been done according to procedures. We would not
\nobject even if the mayoralty closed down the regency office,\" she
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The slaughterhouse had been accused of dumping waste into a
\nriver used by the mayoralty's water supply company for public
