Slamet's dossier return to police<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said here on Thursday they had returned the case file
\nof Mas Slamet bin Kastari, the alleged chief operative in
\nSingapore of the Jamaah Islamiyah terrorist network, to police in
\nRiau province for revision.<\/p>\n
"Because the dossier does not meet the formal and material
\nrequirements, we returned it to investigators in the Riau Police
\nheadquarters for completion," spokesman for the provincial
\nprosecutor's office Dippuan Siallagan told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
He declined to elaborate further, but underlined that if the
\ndossier was not revised, Slamet and his lawyers could counter the
\nevidence presented in the case file.<\/p>\n
"If we press ahead with taking the case to trial with the
\nexisting evidence, the suspect could be acquitted of all
\ncharges," Dippuan said.<\/p>\n
"Hence, we want the police to complete the dossier to avoid
\nthat," he added.<\/p>\n
Slamet was arrested last month by police in the town of
\nTanjung Pinang, Riau. Singapore put him on its list of wanted
\npeople accused of plotting terrorist attacks in the neighboring
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
He was later flown to Riau for further questioning on charges
\nof breaching immigration regulations as the suspect had allegedly
\nforged his passport and travel documents.<\/p>\n
The police have not as yet leveled charges of terrorism
\nagainst Slamet.<\/p>\n
Dippuan said his office also returned the dossiers of four
\nother suspects -- head of the Mandau subdistrict Saparian in
\nBengkalis regency, his two staff members Refinoer and Fakrul, as
\nwell as Fatmawati who works for a local immigration service
\nbureau.<\/p>\n
The four were accused of assisting and facilitating the
\narrangement of Slamet's passport and identity card in Bengkalis.<\/p>\n
Dippuan said prosecutors were studying the case file of the
\nfifth suspect, Ridwan, a broker at the Dumai immigration office,
\nwho allegedly helped Slamet to obtain travel documents.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor did not rule out the possibility of also giving
\nback Ridwan's dossier to the Riau police.<\/p>\n
Slamet's wife, Norlela binti Sahali, has also been questioned
\nat the Tanjung Pinang Police station on similar charges of
\nholding a fake passport.<\/p>\n
Police investigating detained suspects in the Bali bombings
\nthat killed more than 200 people, mostly foreigners, have linked
\nthe devastating blasts to Jamaah Islamiyah.<\/p>\n
Singapore, which accused Slamet of involvement in an attempt
\nto hijack planes in the island state, has demanding that the
\nsuspect be extradited. But the Indonesia government turned down
\nthe request.<\/p>",
