Sjahril visits ailing father<\/p>\n
PADANG, West Sumatra: Sentiment dominated the reunion between
\nsuspended Central Bank governor Sjahril Sabirin and his ailing
\n91-year-old father at Yarsi Islamic Hospital in Bukittinggi on
\nThursday.<\/p>\n
Sjahril, a suspect in the high-profile Bank Bali scandal, has
\nbeen granted a five-day leave by the Attorney General's Office to
\nvisit his father, Ahmad Sabirin, who has been in hospital for 10
\ndays for a heart condition.<\/p>\n
Sjahril, who is being escorted by two officials of the
\nAttorney General's Office, headed directly to the hospital to see
\nhis father and ask for forgiveness. Ahmad was surrounded by
\nfamily members citing passages from the Koran when Sjahril
\narrived. When Ahmad saw Sjahril, he was speechless and his eyes
\nwelled up with tears.<\/p>\n
Sjahril's younger sister, Gustini Sabirin, told reporters that
\nAhmad had been longing to see Sjahril and kept calling his name.<\/p>\n
\"We're really grateful that uda (older brother) Sjahril can
\ncome to visit and hope that his presence here will help improve
\nfather's condition,\" she said.<\/p>\n
After learning that Sjahril was at the hospital, local
\nresidents went there to meet him in person and shake his hand.
