Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin received an official visit from\nthe Qatari Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Saoud\nbin Abdurrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.\nSjafrie stated that this visit serves as a follow-up to a meeting held\nin Qatar on 12 April last year, during which defence cooperation\nagreements between the two nations were discussed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cooperation pertains to military matters, education, training,\nthe defence industry, and more,\u201d said Sjafrie at the Ministry of Defence\nOffice in Jakarta. In a separate statement, the Head of the Defence\nInformation Bureau, Brigadier General Rico Sirait, noted that a key\nagenda item was the signing of a Statement of Intent as a follow-up to\nthe Letter of Intent signed in 2021.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Sjafrie and the Qatari Defence Minister signed a\nMemorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Qatar\u2019s Barzan Holdings and\nlocal Indonesian defence industries, facilitated through the Head of\nDefence Logistics. Rico emphasised that the relationship between\nIndonesia and Qatar holds significant strategic value, adding that these\nagreements represent a concrete step towards strengthening defence ties\nin a more structured, mutually beneficial, and implementable manner.<\/p>\n
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Sjafrie presented the\nDharma Pertahanan award to Sheikh Saoud bin Abdurrahman in recognition\nof Qatar\u2019s contributions and commitment to enhancing defence\ncooperation. Rico noted that the award reflects Qatar\u2019s role as a\nstrategic partner in the Middle East regarding defence, diplomacy, and\ninternational peace stability.
