Several active paddy fields across six subak systems in Petang\nDistrict, Badung Regency, Bali, have been left parched due to limited\nirrigation water flow and distribution. The Badung Regency Government is\nproviding emergency assistance by deploying three water tankers and\npumps to save crops in the agricultural lands.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe areas most affected are primarily the farmlands in the\ndownstream sections because irrigation water flow and distribution are\nlimited. This is an emergency response, distributing water via tankers\nand pumps so that the water needs of the crops can still be met,\u201d said\nthe Head of the Badung Agriculture and Food Office (Diperpa), Anak Agung\nNgurah Raka Sukadana, on Thursday (10\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
The rice field areas experiencing the water crisis include Subak\nBergiding, Subak Penglumbaran, Subak Buangga, as well as Subak Babakan\nBengkel I, II, and III. The most severe conditions are being felt by\nfarmers working on lands in the downstream regions.<\/p>\n
Sukadana stated that he has requested the administrators of Subak\nBatulantang and Subak Bukit, located in the upstream areas, to\nreorganise the management of irrigation water distribution to the lower\nareas. He has also submitted requests for emergency water pump\nfacilities along with additional operational funds to support the water\nsupply needs in the affected lands.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur coordination is focused on regulating water distribution. The\napplication for emergency water pumps and operational support to help\nmeet the water needs in agricultural lands has also been submitted,\u201d\nsaid Raka.<\/p>\n
The delivery of water via tankers is being assisted by units from the\nDepartment of Public Works and Spatial Planning (DPUPR). He acknowledged\nthat the drought management is being carried out in stages to ensure\nirrigation supplies return to stability, which includes preparing\nalternative water sources such as wells at other points determined based\non technical identification and water source availability.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlternative water sources, such as wells, will be located in Munduk\nBeng, Subak Buangga, in Getasan Village. We are opening the option for\nadditional borehole construction, though this remains subject to\ntechnical studies,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
These medium- and long-term steps are being prepared to strengthen\nthe irrigation system and anticipate the threat of drought in the\nfuture.
