Six students go on trial for murder<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta District Court began trying
\nyesterday six senior high school students for killing another
\nstudent.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Agus Sutoto said that Nandan Mulyadi, known as
\nPenjor, Abdur Rohman, Jodhy Kresnapati, Muhammad Fahad Mukrom,
\nknown as Faad, Hendi Hendarsyah, and Heryansyah attacked
\nSyaefudin Tafsir on Jl. Gaharu in South Jakarta on Sept.9. The
\nboys were fighting with the victim's gang.<\/p>\n
The defendants and the victim are all between 16 and 18 years
\nold.<\/p>\n
The defendants are students at a state high school in
\nCilandak, South Jakarta. The victim was a student at a private
\ntechnical high school in the same area.<\/p>\n
Dozens of students packed the court room to watch the trial
\npresided over by Judge Kepler Simandjuntak.<\/p>\n
Plan<\/p>\n
The prosecutor said that at 9:30 p.m on Sept. 9, Syaefudin and
\nhis friends, including Wahyu Hidayat, Arta Pratama and Fajri
\nFatara went to Jl. Gaharu where the defendants were hanging out.<\/p>\n
The victim and his friends planned to ask for Wahyu's bag and
\nhat which were stolen by the gang several days before, he said.<\/p>\n
The gang at first ran away, but later came back with more
\nfriends to attack Syaefudin's group, Agus said.<\/p>\n
Overwhelmed, Syaefudin, Arta, Wahyu and Fajri ran. Syaefudin
\nfell.<\/p>\n
Hit<\/p>\n
Nandan Mulyadi hit Syaefudin and then stoned him. Heryansyah
\nslapped Syaefudin's face. Jodhy clubbed the victim's head with a
\nsteel pipe while Faad and Abdur Rohman kicked him in the stomach,
\nthe prosecutor said.<\/p>\n
\"The victim died in hospital the following day from cerebral
\nhemorrhage,\" he added.<\/p>\n
The defendants violated article 170 and article 351 of the
\nCriminal Code. If found guilty, they face up to seven years in
\nprison.<\/p>\n
Police records indicate at least 200 students have been jailed
\nfor brawling, torturing others, robbery and vandalism.<\/p>\n
City police said that more than 150 crimes, including brawls
\nand holdups, were committed by students between January and
