        "content": "<p>Six men to represent Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The City Council has appointed six city<br>\nofficials to represent Jakarta at the People's Consultative<br>\nAssembly (MPR), which is assigned the duty of electing the<br>\ncountry's leader and adapting five-year state guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Among the six representatives selected in yesterday's plenary<br>\nsession were Governor Surjadi Soedirdja, Jakarta Military<br>\nCommander Maj. Gen. Sutiyoso and City Council Speaker Edy Waluyo.<\/p>\n<p>The other three were H.M. Syah Manaf of the Golkar faction,<br>\nChudrin Hasbullah of the United Development Party and Sahala P.<br>\nSinaga of Indonesia's Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>The election of provincial representatives is in line with<br>\nChapter 2 of the 1945 Constitution, which says members of MPR are<br>\nmade up of representatives from each of Indonesia's 27 provinces,<br>\nincluding Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>According to Edy Waluyo, the council has set up a team to<br>\nselect six candidates to represent Jakarta at the assembly as<br>\nruled in a decree issued recently by the minister of home<br>\naffairs.<\/p>\n<p>\"The six candidates have fulfilled all requirements,\" Edy<br>\nsaid.
