Six killed as truck falls into river<\/p>\n
JEPARA, Central Java (JP): Six people were killed and one
\ncritically injured when their truck skidded and plunged into a
\nriver here Monday, the police said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The truck with 11 people on board was on its way from Jepara
\nto the capital Semarang when it suddenly skidded, rammed into a
\nbridge and plunged into the eight-meter deep Sebagor river,
\neyewitnesses said.<\/p>\n
Jepara police precinct chief Lt. Bambang Eko Tjahjono told The
\nJakarta Post the accident was caused by the driver, Supriyanto,
\n25, who was killed.<\/p>\n
"He should have slowed down when passing the slippery bridge,"
\nhe said. "There is no traffic sign on that particular section of
\nthe road."<\/p>\n
The accident happened on a bend on a rainy day.<\/p>\n
Most of those killed and the man injured were carpenters from
\nJepara furniture factory who had stopped the truck to hitch a
\nfree ride to Semarang.<\/p>\n
The police identified the bodies as Supriyanto, 25, Jumali,
\n24, Parjo, 28, Arif, 18, Pardi, 35, and Riyanto, 25 -- all were
\nJepara residents. Purmawan, 18 was seriously injured. (har\/pan)<\/p>",
