Six factions to go ahead with special session<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Ignoring embattled President Abdurrahman Wahid's
\nexecutive order, major House factions said on Monday they would
\ngo ahead with their plan to call for a special session of the
\nPeople's Consultative Assembly.<\/p>\n
House speaker Akbar Tandjung, who is also chairman of the
\nGolkar Party, said the House would go ahead on Wednesday with a
\nplenary session to evaluate the president's response to the
\nsecond censure.<\/p>\n
\"The president's executive order has no political implications
\nfor the House's agenda for the plenary session in which factions
\nwill present their political stance on the president's response
\nto the second memorandum of censure,\" he said here on Monday.<\/p>\n
The president gave an executive order to Coordinating Minister
\nfor Political, Social and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang
\nYudhoyono to take special steps and action to restore security
\nand order, as well as to enforce the law, due to what he termed a
\n\"political emergency\".<\/p>\n
Akbar implied that a majority of House factions would call on
\nthe Assembly to hold a special session to ask for the president's
\naccountability due to the president's unsatisfactory response to
\nthe second censure.<\/p>\n
\"However, it is not certain whether or not the president will
\nbe impeached because there is a possibility that a political
\ncompromise will be reached during the special session,\" he said.<\/p>\n
But Hafids, a member of the Golkar faction, said his faction
\nwould propose a special session to impeach the president.<\/p>\n
\"Our faction's political stance to be presented to the House's
\nplenary session on Wednesday is clear, and we will call for a
\nspecial session to ask for the president's accountability,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Pramono Anung Wibowo, deputy secretary-general of the
\nIndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan)
\nconcurred and said his faction's stance would be handed to Vice
\nPresident Megawati Soekarnoputri to approve on Monday evening.<\/p>\n
\"The political stance prepared by the party's Team-8 is ready
\nand it's clear that we want to solve the Bulog and Brunei
\nscandals in accordance with the constitution,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Arifin Panigoro, chairman of PDI Perjuangan faction, claimed
\nthat Megawati and her party rejected the president's power-
\ntransfer proposal \"because we want to solve the political crisis
\nin accordance with the constitution.\"<\/p>\n
\"PDI Perjuangan has decided to solve the political crisis in a
\nspecial session of the Assembly in which the president will be
\nasked to present his accountability,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Ali Marwan Hanan, chairman of the United Development Party
\n(PPP) and Achmad Sumargono, chairman of the Crescent Star Party
\n(PBB), revealed that their factions would say \"no\" to the
\npresident.<\/p>\n
\"We will be consistent with our previous stance that the
\npolitical crisis must be solved through the Assembly special
\nsession,\" said Ali Marwan.<\/p>\n
Hatta Radjasa, chairman of the reform faction, said his
\nfaction, which was included within the Axis Force, would have the
\nsame stance and that the second censure should be followed up
\nwith a special session to ask for the president's accountability.<\/p>\n
Col. (Navy) Christin M. Rantetana, secretary of the Indonesian
\nMilitary\/National Police faction, said her faction would likely
\nabstain on a vote to convene a special session if the current
\npolitical climate remained uncertain.<\/p>\n
\"Our faction will continue to stay out of the conflict among
\npolitical parties and it won't get trapped in their conflicting
\ninterests. Our main objective is the national interest,\" she
