Siswono's daughter dies<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The daughter of the Minister of Transmigration
\nSiswono Yudohusodo died in Jerusalem yesterday at 2 a.m., local
\ntime, after being treated for thalassemia.<\/p>\n
Emeralda, 11, left Jakarta with her mother, Mrs. Ratih
\nYudohusodo on March 30 for treatment at the Hadasah hospital.<\/p>\n
Emeralda was diagnosed four years ago as suffering from
\nthalassemia.<\/p>\n
Titut Pusponegoro, an older sister of Siswono, confirmed that
\nEmeralda underwent a bone marrow transplant in April.<\/p>\n
Another relative said Siswono left on Wednesday for Jerusalem,
\nwhere a number of family members were already gathered.<\/p>\n
\"It seems that Emeralda was waiting for her father,\" the
\nrelative told The Jakarta Post by telephone.<\/p>\n
The body of Emeralda, the third of four children, will be
\nbrought back to the Siswono's home on Jl. Abdul Madjig 48, in
\nCipete, South Jakarta, and is expected to arrive tomorrow
\nmorning.<\/p>\n
Emeralda, a fifth grader of the Tarakanita elementary school
\non Jl. Monginsidi, South Jakarta, will be buried at either the
\nnearby Jeruk Purut or at the Tanah Kusir cemetery, the relative
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Before leaving for Jerusalem, Emeralda, known to be \"a bright
\nchild,\" could study normally, except at times when her hemoglobin
\nlevel dropped.<\/p>\n
She would have turned 11 years old on July 25.<\/p>\n
Thalassemia is a hereditary disease which affects red blood
\ncells, known to afflict three to eight percent of the population
