Siswanto faces death sentence<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The prosecutor demanded that the Central Jakarta
\nDistrict Court yesterday to sentence Siswanto to death for
\nmurdering six boys after sodomizing them.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Suriansah said Siswanto alias Robot Gedek, 33, was
\nguilty of first degree murder under article 65 of the Criminal
\nCode, which carries the death penalty.<\/p>\n
Suriansah said Robot deserved the death penalty because he did
\nnot show any remorse during trial and had committed six counts of
\npremeditated murder.<\/p>\n
\"The prosecutor also found Robot to be a sane and
\ncommunicative adult who could be held responsible for his
\noffenses,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Suriansah also said the defendant would not repent.<\/p>\n
Robot, who as usual wore a white shirt and black pants,
\nremained expressionless during the session. He bowed his head
\nmost of the time.<\/p>\n
When Judge Sartono asked him whether he understood the
\nprosecutor's demand, Robot said that he did.<\/p>\n
But after his lawyers explained the demand to Robot, he looked
\nshocked and said he did not understand.<\/p>\n
After the session, when reporters asked him if he was scared
\nof being sentenced to death, Robot said \"yes,\" but added he only
\nkilled the boys because a man named Bambang told him to do so.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Najib Khan, Robot's lawyer, said outside the
\ncourtroom that the sentence demand was too stiff.<\/p>\n
\"Robot's mental health and intellectual ability should be
\nseriously considered here because the defendant always agreed to
\nanything he was told and could not state an opinion,\" Najib said.<\/p>\n
Febry Irmansyah, Robot's other lawyer, said the prosecutor
\nshould have looked into the juridical facts which showed that 80
\npercent of the material evidence and witnesses did not prove the
\ndefendant's guilt.<\/p>\n
Previously, Robot's lawyers asked for a psychiatric
\nevaluation of the defendant but then decided he was sane enough.<\/p>\n
Robot, who comes from the Central Java town of Pekalongan,
\nstands charged of killing six boys between 11 and 15 years after
\nsexually abusing them.<\/p>\n
The hearing was adjourned until next week to hear the lawyers
