        "content": "<p>Sintong gets new post<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Minister\/State Secretary Akbar Tandjung swore-in<br>\nLt. Gen. (ret) Sintong Panjaitan (center) as Secretary of<br>\nDevelopment Operation yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Here in the photo Sintong is seen chatting with his<br>\npredecessor -- the current Minister of Information Yunus Yosfiah<br>\n(left) -- and Minister of Transmigration A.M. Hendropriyono.<\/p>\n<p>Sintong, 57, was drafted onto Habibie's expert staff for<br>\nsecurity and defense affairs early last month when the latter was<br>\nstill vice president.<\/p>\n<p>Sintong's military career soared after he led a commando<br>\noperation to liberate passengers from a hijacked Indonesian plane<br>\nin Bangkok in 1981. In 1985 he was appointed commander of the<br>\nArmy's Special Force (Kopassus).<\/p>\n<p>His career in the Armed Forces (ABRI) ended following a bloody<br>\nclash between demonstrators and security forces in Dili on Nov.<br>\n12, 1991. Sintong at that time was commander of the Udayana<br>\nmilitary command which oversees Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East<br>\nNusa Tenggara and East Timor.<\/p>\n<p>Akbar also installed Maj. Gen. Arifin Tarigan as secretary<br>\ngeneral of the National Defense and Security Council<br>\n(Wanhankamnas) yesterday. He replaced Lt. Gen. Soetarto. (prb)<\/p>",
