        "content": "<p>Singkawang, West Kalimantan (ANTARA) \u2014 Head of the Singkawang Airport\nService Unit Ilham Hafizi said the number of passengers arriving and\ndeparting through Singkawang Airport has risen ahead of the Cap Go Meh\n2026 celebrations in Singkawang, West Kalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, passenger numbers have doubled compared to normal\ndays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsually the number of arriving passengers is around 350 people per\nday, but ahead of Cap Go Meh this has increased to approximately 700\npassengers per day. Departing passenger numbers have also risen,\u201d Ilham\nsaid in Singkawang on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the surge was driven by high mobility among the\npublic and tourists wishing to witness the series of Chinese New Year\n2577 Kongzili and Cap Go Meh 2026 celebrations, which form an annual\nevent in Singkawang.<\/p>\n<p>To anticipate the increase in passenger traffic, authorities have\nadded two additional flights on the Jakarta\u2013Singkawang return route.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently two airlines have been added, namely Super Air Jet and\nTransNusa, bringing the total number of flights to four times per day on\nthe Jakarta\u2013Singkawang return route,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the increased flight frequency was implemented to\nmaintain smooth passenger flow whilst supporting the regional tourism\nsector, which is expected to grow during the cultural celebration\nperiod.<\/p>\n<p>The series of Chinese New Year and Cap Go Meh 2026 celebrations in\nSingkawang are scheduled to run from 28 February to 4 March 2026. From\n28 February to 3 March, a Cap Go Meh Culinary Festival will be held in\nthe city centre.<\/p>\n<p>On 1 March, a Lantern Parade will take place, whilst on 1\u20132 March the\nCap Go Meh Evil-Warding Ritual will be held and from 1\u20133 March the Ket\nSam Thoi Ritual will be staged on Jalan Sejahtera, Singkawang.<\/p>\n<p>The celebrations will peak on 3 March with the Cap Go Meh Festival\nfeaturing hundreds of tatung (spirit mediums), whilst the closing of the\nChinese New Year and Cap Go Meh series is scheduled for 4 March at\nKridasana Stadium, Singkawang.<\/p>\n<p>Ilham expressed hope that the surge in passenger numbers would have a\npositive impact on economic growth and tourist visits to Singkawang\nduring the celebrations.<\/p>",
