        "content": "<p>Singer wants to be IPB rector<\/p>\n<p>BOGOR: More than 30 people, including singer Maya Rumantir,<br>\nhave registered as candidates for the post of rector of the Bogor<br>\nInstitute of Agriculture (IPB).<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of the rector electoral committee, Ismudi<br>\nMuchsin, told Antara news agency the registration deadline for<br>\nthe election was Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the candidates are lecturers at the institute or IPB<br>\nalumni, including economist Didik J. Rachnini.<\/p>\n<p>IPB is the fourth state institution in the country to hold<br>\nelections for the position of rector, with the contests being<br>\nopen to candidates from both within and outside the campus. This<br>\nis in accordance with the change of status for these institutions<br>\nfrom state-owned incorporate entities, which requires the<br>\ninstitutes to raise their own money as the government gradually<br>\nphases out their subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>Maya, who runs an educational institute here, was at one time<br>\nacquainted with the jailed son of former president Soeharto,<br>\nHutomo \"Tommy\" Mandala Putra.--JP<\/p>",
