Singer becomes Golkar candidate<\/p>\n

Quite recently, papers in the capital were filled with the
\nnews about Rhoma Irama, a famous local singer, who was cited as
\none of the candidates listed by ruling Golkar political group in
\nits bid for seats in the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n
Aside from the fact Rhoma Irama has intellectual qualities and
\nan artistic background, the candidacy of this singer, who once
\nsupported the PPP (United Development Party), can have a positive
\nimpact on the present political situation.<\/p>\n
The positive part is that it is now clear that even artists
\ncan be elected as representatives of the people and, in fact,
\nthey would certainly be more sensitive to the people's
\naspirations and also more communicative in society because they
\nhave frequent contacts with the public.<\/p>\n
Now, Golkar has succeeded in drawing Rhoma Irama into its
\ncircle. And in order that future legislators be more people
\noriented, perhaps candidates should be found not only among those
\nperformers with dangdut (Indian style music) background, but also
\namong comedians, such as Jojon, Doyok, Warkop, Bagito, Mandra and
\nDorce. And the potential of the artists in the Srimulat group
\nmust not be ignored either.<\/p>\n
The presence of comedians and other performers as party
\ncandidates will hopefully ensure peace for the coming election
\ncampaigns.<\/p>\n
