Singaporean Goh visits Philippines<\/p>\n
MANILA (DPA): Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong is set
\nto arrive in the Philippines today for a three-day state visit
\naimed at reinvigorating bilateral ties which had been strained in
\n1995 due to the hanging of a Filipino overseas worker for murder.<\/p>\n
A presidential palace statement said yesterday Goh would be
\naccompanied by a high-powered delegation of government and
\nbusiness leaders during the visit, which will focus on
\nstrengthening economic relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n
During the visit, Goh is scheduled to hold meetings with
\nPresident Fidel Ramos, top government officials and business
\nleaders. He is also slated to be the keynote address at a
\nSingapore-Philippines Business Council conference.<\/p>\n
Relations between the Philippines and Singapore cooled in 1995
\nafter the city-state executed Filipino maid Flor Contemplacion
\nfor the murder of a fellow domestic and a four-year-old
\nSingaporean boy.<\/p>",
