        "content": "<p>Singaporean files extortion compalint<\/p>\n<p>Multa Fidrus, Tangerang<\/p>\n<p>At least four immigration officers at Soekarno-Hatta<br>\nInternational Airport could face sanctions after a Singaporean<br>\nwoman filed a complaint accusing them of attempted extortion.<\/p>\n<p>The head of immigration at the airport, Guntoro Hermanuadi,<br>\nconfirmed on Thursday that a complaint had been filed against a<br>\nnumber of officers.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I will take stern measures against those officers after I<br>\nquestion them. They must not ask for money for any services they<br>\nprovide to foreigners. It&apos;s really a shame,&quot; he said without<br>\ngoing into detail on the possible sanctions the officers could<br>\nface.<\/p>\n<p>Guntoro said he had made efforts to improve immigration<br>\nservices at the airport, but incidents of extortion continued to<br>\noccur.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I am tired of reports of (officers) asking for money from<br>\nforeigners. Immigration<br>\nofficers must follow the regulations ...,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The report was filed by Singaporean Nadira Surattee, 44, who<br>\nwas not allowed to depart for Singapore on Wednesday because her<br>\nreentry permit had expired.<\/p>\n<p>An officer at an immigration checkpoint in Terminal E directed<br>\nthe woman to his superior, identified only as Romi, to extend the<br>\npermit.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Romi and three other officers inside the room told me to<br>\nextend my permit at the South Jakarta Immigration Office because<br>\nI live in the area,&quot; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Surattee asked if there was a special permit she could obtain<br>\nat the airport, because her father was sick and it was urgent<br>\nthat she get to Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They asked me to pay US$300 for a special permit. And then<br>\nthey asked me for some money for themselves,&quot; she said.<\/p>\n<p>When she said that she could only give them Rp 300,000<br>\n($34.70), they instructed her to go to the South Jakarta<br>\nImmigration Office.<\/p>\n<p>The woman was able to extend her reentry permit on Thursday<br>\nfor Rp 700,000 at the immigration office.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I told them that I would tell the newspapers about their<br>\ntreatment of me.
