Singapore anxious over MPR session<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The final week of the General Session of the
\nPeople's Consultative Assembly appears to be an uneasy spell of
\ntime for not only the country, but its neighbor Singapore.<\/p>\n
A number of Singaporean business circle told Antara in Batam,
\nRiau on Thursday how they were watching the course of the session
\nthrough all available media.<\/p>\n
They said they were aware of President B.J. Habibie's
\naccountability speech before the Assembly on Thursday and the
\npresidential election next Wednesday the most.<\/p>\n
Their ears were glued to a local radio station Warna Singapura
\nwhich broadcast a talk show on presidential candidates recently.
\nThe radio interviewed political observer Mochtar Pabottingi and
\nAssembly speaker Amien Rais.<\/p>\n
"If the analysis comes true, we will lose interest in capital
\ninvestment in Indonesia," a businessman Lee Sau Wee said after
\nhearing the broadcast.<\/p>\n
Mochtar told the radio that Habibie's reelection would
\ngenerate political instability, while Amien suggested that
\nIndonesian leave the issue to the Assembly. (amd)<\/p>",
