The one-stop service for handling driver's license (SIM)
\napplications at the metro police station in Daan Mogot, West
\nJakarta, remains vulnerable to the practice of brokers
\ncooperating with police officers and other SIM personnel.<\/p>\n
Officially, the public is only required to pay an application
\nfee of Rp 52,500, besides paying health and insurance fees,
\nmaking the total Rp 75,000 per license. Those applying for a
\nlicense through official channels have to spend at least one full
\nday taking written and practical tests.<\/p>\n
Applicants refusing to spend the entire day at the police
\nstation just have to pay from Rp 150,000 to Rp 250,000 and they
\nare exempted from the tests. This short-cut service is available
\nthrough insiders, comprising police officers and employees, with
\nthe help of brokers.<\/p>\n
The present system of applying for licenses seems to be
\nineffective in ensuring the public is disciplines, because those
\nwho do not want to wait can just leave it to brokers. So what is
\nthe one-stop service for if the expected discipline fails to
