Siloam Gleneagles has new scanning device<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): Siloam Gleneagles Hospital, jointly owned by
\nthe Lippo Group and its Singaporean partner, introduced on
\nSaturday its US$2 million Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
\nGyroscan INTERA 1.5.<\/p>\n
Hospital director Satyanegara told a news meeting that the
\nradiology unit, purchased from STI Nederland BV in Holland, was
\nready to give medical checkups to patients who want to try the
\nnew MRI for Rp 1 million ($120).<\/p>\n
The MRI, which uses noninvasive radio-diagnostic imaging
\nresulting in descriptions of human organs by using a magnetic
\nfield, was installed \"to prevent Indonesians from leaving the
\ncountry for a similar medical checkup,\" Satyanegara said.<\/p>\n
Siloam Gleneagles Hospital is the second hospital in Asia to
\nreceive the latest version of the machine after a hospital in
\nJapan.<\/p>\n
The introduction of the new machine was also witnessed by
\nLippo Group chairman Mochtar Riady, Chinese Ambassador Chen
\nHaihua, Mozambique Ambassador Jose Tivira Makorongo and
\nrepresentatives from STI Nederland BV.<\/p>\n
Satyanegara said the MRI 1.5, which was introduced to the
\nworld late last year, was used by four hospitals worldwide,
\nincluding Gleneagles Hospital.<\/p>\n
Another version of the MRI has been used in 10 hospitals in
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
Ronald Hutapea from the Ministry of Health's Directorate
\nGeneral of Medical Care, who also attended the ceremony at the
\nhospital, appealed to hospital management to also care about the
\npoor.<\/p>\n
Mochtar Riady insisted that \"the MRI service must not be
\nmerely for the wealthy\". (01)<\/p>",
