        "content": "<p>SilkAir suspends Singapore-Jakarta route<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): SilkAir announced on Friday it would suspend its<br>\n12-time weekly scheduled services linking Singapore to Jakarta<br>\nstarting July 26 due to a decline in passengers.<\/p>\n<p>SilkAir&apos;s General Manager Mak Swee Wah said the decision was<br>\nmade following the airline&apos;s network review conducted in light of<br>\nthe economic crisis in the region.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Traffic between Singapore and Jakarta has declined<br>\nsignificantly over the past year and the present capacity on the<br>\nroute is more than adequate at present.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The route is well-served by our parent company, Singapore<br>\nAirlines, which offers a seven-time daily service. We felt that<br>\nit would be better for us to focus our attention on other<br>\nIndonesian services,&quot; he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>He did not give further details on the decline in the load<br>\nfactor.<\/p>\n<p>Mak said Indonesia remained a vital part of SilkAir&apos;s network<br>\nand the company would continue flying to eight other destinations<br>\nin Indonesia, namely Medan, Menado, Pekanbaru, Padang, Solo,<br>\nUjung Pandang, Balikpapan and Lombok.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will continue to develop and promote traffic to these<br>\ndestinations,&quot; he added.<\/p>\n<p>SilkAir currently flies the Singapore-Medan route 10 times a<br>\nweek, Singapore-Pekanbaru seven times, Singapore-Lombok five<br>\ntimes and Singapore-Menado twice.<\/p>\n<p>Mak also said SilkAir would ensure all passengers who had<br>\nbooked and ticketed travel on the suspended flights between<br>\nSingapore and Jakarta beyond July 25 would be transferred to<br>\neither Singapore Airlines or another airline.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will ensure the passengers of flights beyond 25 July will<br>\nbe transferred with a minimum of inconvenience to them,&quot; he<br>\nsaid.(gis)<\/p>",
