SilkAir suspends Singapore-Jakarta route<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): SilkAir announced on Friday it would suspend its
\n12-time weekly scheduled services linking Singapore to Jakarta
\nstarting July 26 due to a decline in passengers.<\/p>\n
SilkAir's General Manager Mak Swee Wah said the decision was
\nmade following the airline's network review conducted in light of
\nthe economic crisis in the region.<\/p>\n
"Traffic between Singapore and Jakarta has declined
\nsignificantly over the past year and the present capacity on the
\nroute is more than adequate at present.<\/p>\n
"The route is well-served by our parent company, Singapore
\nAirlines, which offers a seven-time daily service. We felt that
\nit would be better for us to focus our attention on other
\nIndonesian services," he said in a statement.<\/p>\n
He did not give further details on the decline in the load
\nfactor.<\/p>\n
Mak said Indonesia remained a vital part of SilkAir's network
\nand the company would continue flying to eight other destinations
\nin Indonesia, namely Medan, Menado, Pekanbaru, Padang, Solo,
\nUjung Pandang, Balikpapan and Lombok.<\/p>\n
"We will continue to develop and promote traffic to these
\ndestinations," he added.<\/p>\n
SilkAir currently flies the Singapore-Medan route 10 times a
\nweek, Singapore-Pekanbaru seven times, Singapore-Lombok five
\ntimes and Singapore-Menado twice.<\/p>\n
Mak also said SilkAir would ensure all passengers who had
\nbooked and ticketed travel on the suspended flights between
\nSingapore and Jakarta beyond July 25 would be transferred to
\neither Singapore Airlines or another airline.<\/p>\n
"We will ensure the passengers of flights beyond 25 July will
\nbe transferred with a minimum of inconvenience to them," he
