Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) believes\nthat the use of low-emission building materials is a vital component in\naccelerating the implementation of sustainable construction in\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
SIG Operations Director Reni Wulandari stated that the implementation\nof green buildings cannot rely solely on standards and assessment\nframeworks; it must be realised from the selection of materials through\nto the construction process.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe transition towards low-emission construction requires\ncollaboration across the entire value chain, as well as the availability\nof building material solutions for various project needs,\u201d Reni said in\nan official statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
According to her, efforts to reduce emissions in the construction\nsector also need to be supported by more efficient material production\nprocesses and the sustainable use of resources.<\/p>\n
The company stated that it has implemented circular economy\nprinciples in its production processes, including the use of alternative\nfuels such as urban waste processed into refuse-derived fuel (RDF),\nindustrial waste, and biomass.<\/p>\n
The company noted that the thermal substitution rate (TSR) at its\nfactories has reached 25 per cent. This rate indicates the portion of\nthermal energy that can be replaced by alternative fuels during the\nproduction process.<\/p>\n
In addition to alternative fuels, SIG utilises renewable energy in\nseveral operational areas through solar panels and the optimisation of\nwaste heat using Waste Heat Recovery Power Generation (WHRPG)\ntechnology.<\/p>\n
The company is also implementing factory digitalisation to optimise\nproduction processes and increase efficiency. One of the technologies\nused is a plant optimiser system, which has been implemented in several\nproduction facilities and is planned for expansion to other plants.<\/p>\n
Reni said these steps are aimed at producing building materials with\nlower emission intensities without compromising quality for their\nintended use.<\/p>\n
According to company records, the low-emission cement products\nproduced by SIG have an emission intensity up as much as 38 per cent\nlower than conventional cement. Several of these products have also\nobtained Green Label certification.<\/p>\n
In addition to cement, SIG is developing various concrete products\nand cement-derived building materials to meet construction needs while\nconsidering material efficiency and sustainability aspects.<\/p>\n
The company also stated that its products comply with the Indonesian\nNational Standard (SNI), with a local content level (TKDN) of more than\n90 per cent.<\/p>\n
Reni assessed that the application of sustainability principles is\nbecoming increasingly important as the need for infrastructure and\nbuilding development continues to prioritise resource efficiency and\nemission reduction.<\/p>\n
Efforts to expand the understanding of green buildings are also being\nundertaken by SIG in collaboration with the Green Building Council\nIndonesia (GBCI) through the Indonesia Green Building Festival 2026.<\/p>\n
The series of activities is scheduled to take place in Bandung on 9\nSeptember, Yogyakarta on 14 September, Makassar on 24 September,\nDenpasar on 26 September, and Surabaya on 29 September 2026.<\/p>\n
