Sierra Leone national arrested with heroin<\/p>\n

A 31-year-old Sierra Leone national was arrested on his arrival
\nat Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport for allegedly trying
\nto smuggle 461.7 grams of heroin into Indonesia, customs
\nofficials said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The suspect, identified as Emmanuel O Ihejerika, was found
\nwith 31 capsules of heroin in his stomach, Denpasar customs and
\nexcise office head Wahyu Purnomo said.<\/p>\n
\"We asked the suspect to consume a laxative agent to induce
\nexcretion. The last capsule was discharged by his body this
\n(Thursday) afternoon,\" he added.<\/p>\n
He said Ihejerika, who had reportedly visited Bali at least
\nfive times before, was currently under the custody of the Bali
\nPolice.<\/p>\n
The suspect had disembarked from Malaysian Airlines flight MH-
\n715. His itinerary showed that he had traveled to Karachi, Hong
\nKong and Kuala Lumpur prior to his arrival in Bali on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\"Our officers had closely monitored the suspect since he
\ndisembarked from the plane. The agitated response of our trained
\ndogs (to Ihejerika) strengthened our suspicion. Therefore, the
\nofficers immediately approached the suspect and started to
\ninterrogate him,\" Wahyu said.<\/p>\n
Initially, the suspect claimed he was a food supplement and
\nvitamins salesman. However, when pressed by the officers, he
\ncould not say specifically which brands he sold.<\/p>\n
He was taken to a nearby health clinic, where an X-ray
\nexamination revealed foreign objects in his stomach.<\/p>\n
In fact the objects were 31 capsules of heroin, each measuring
\nfive centimeters long and two centimeters in diameter and
\nweighing around 14 grams.<\/p>\n
It was estimated that the heroin inside the capsules had a
\nstreet value of over Rp 415 million (US$48,886).<\/p>\n
\"Lately, we have tightened our surveillance of incoming
\nforeign passengers, particularly nationals from African
\ncountries, because we consider them (to be from) a high-risk
\ndrug-smuggling region,\" Wahyu added.<\/p>",
