Siemens wins Malaysian order<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): German conglomerate Siemens has won a
\ncontract to built a two-billion-ringgit (US$526 million) power
\nplant in Malaysia, according to a report Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Sun newspaper said the Malaysian Resources Corporation
\nBhd. (MRCB) awarded the turnkey contract to Siemens for the
\nengineering, procurement and construction of the power plant in
\nSelangor state.<\/p>\n
The plant would produce about 710 megawatts of electricity
\nusing a Siemens gas turbine, the paper said, adding it would go
\ninto operation in two phases -- mid-2002 and in 2003.<\/p>\n
Abdul Rahman Maidin, president of MRCB, said power generation
\nwas expected to contribute to the company's earnings, noting
\nelectricity demand rose 17.2 percent over the 14 months to March
\nthis year to a new record of 9,263 megawatts.<\/p>\n
"This new power plant will enhance the reliability and
\nsecurity of power supply for the Klang Valley and the new
\ngovernment administrative center in Putrajaya," Abdul Rahman
\nsaid.<\/p>",
