        "content": "<p>West Java DPRD member from the PKB faction, Sidkon Djampi, has\nstressed the importance of government support for pondok pesantren as\nIslamic educational institutions that play a major role in developing\nhuman resources, strengthening Islamic propagation, and empowering the\ncommunity. This support, Sidkon continued, is partly realised through\nthe implementation of Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 1 of 2021\nconcerning the Facilitation of Pesantren Operations. Sidkon stated that\nthe Pesantren Perda was created as a form of the regional government\u2019s\ncommitment to providing support to pesantren, which have long been an\nimportant part of the nation\u2019s journey. \u201cPesantren existed long before\nIndonesia\u2019s independence. Their role is not only as religious\neducational institutions but also as centres for dakwah, moral\ndevelopment, and community empowerment. Therefore, the state must be\npresent through policies that provide facilitation to pesantren,\u201d Sidkon\ntold Republika on Saturday (4\/7\/2026). According to Sidkon, West Java is\nthe province with the largest number of pondok pesantren in Indonesia.\nThere are currently more than 11,000 pesantren with around one million\nresident santri spread across various regions. This situation makes the\nimplementation of the Pesantren Perda a strategic step in strengthening\nthe contribution of pesantren to regional development. He explained that\nPerda Number 1 of 2021 is the first provincial-level regulation in\nIndonesia to refer to Law Number 18 of 2019 on Pesantren. The regulation\nfocuses on facilitating pesantren operations, strengthening dakwah, and\ncommunity empowerment, while curriculum aspects remain the authority of\nthe central government through the Ministry of Religious Affairs.\nNevertheless, Sidkon believes the implementation of the regulation still\nneeds continuous strengthening. One concern for the DPRD is the\ntemporary suspension of pesantren grant distribution by the West Java\nProvincial Government for evaluation purposes. He said evaluation is\nnecessary to ensure aid is well-targeted. However, the process should\nnot take too long as it will impact pesantren, especially those that are\nstill developing and have limited facilities and infrastructure. \u201cIf\nthere are indeed cases where aid has not been well-targeted, evaluate\nand fix the mechanism. Do not let the assistance be suspended for too\nlong. Many small pesantren still need support to improve their\ndormitories, classrooms, or other facilities,\u201d he said. Sidkon considers\npesantren to be strategic partners of the government in building the\nquality of the younger generation. Therefore, budgetary support through\nvarious facilitation programmes must continue to be provided so that\npesantren can improve the quality of education while expanding their\nrole in community empowerment. Amid regional fiscal constraints, he\nappreciated many pesantren in West Java that continue to develop\nself-reliance. A number of pesantren now have media centres, are\ndeveloping agribusiness sectors, and have even established formal\neducational institutions and universities as part of institutional\nstrengthening. \u201cPesantren have demonstrated their ability to adapt to\nthe times without abandoning their identity as centres of Islamic\neducation, dakwah, and community empowerment,\u201d he said. In addition to\noverseeing the implementation of the Pesantren Perda, the West Java DPRD\nis also encouraging district and city governments to immediately adopt\nsimilar regulations so that support for pesantren is more optimal at the\nlocal level. Several regions, such as Tasikmalaya, Indramayu, and\nCirebon, have already enacted their own perda on pesantren.<\/p>",
