        "content": "<p>Sidewalk vendors in Binjai<\/p>\n<p>From Merdeka<\/p>\n<p>At a discussion to commemorate 75 years of TB Simatupang in<br>\nJakarta on Jan. 31, 1995, many participants deplored the<br>\ninvolvement of the Armed Forces in raids to clear out sidewalk<br>\nvendors to the benefit of entrepreneurs or certain officials.<\/p>\n<p>This mostly happens in Jakarta. In Binjai, North Sumatra, the<br>\npolice and Armed Forces raided sidewalk vendors&apos; stalls,<br>\ndestroying equipment like tables, carts etc. in Pajak Tavip<br>\ncomplex (Jan. 17, 1995) at night, because the vendors stubbornly<br>\nrefused to occupy the permanent kiosks made available to them<br>\ninside the Pajak Tavip market. According to the vendors, the<br>\nkiosks are too expensive for them.<\/p>\n<p>The sidewalk vendors have occupied the present site since they<br>\nwere moved from other locations (Jl. Sudirman, Veteran,<br>\nBangkatan) over ten years ago.
