Shuttlers should 'forget bonuses'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A badminton observer has said financial bonuses
\nshould not be shuttlers' first priority in the Sudirman Cup and
\nworld championships.<\/p>\n
Former women's player Minarni Sudaryanto said player's
\npriority should be their performances.<\/p>\n
\"I suggest they set aside bonuses as their first thought and
\nthink more of their performance,\" Minarni was quoted by Antara as
\nsaying Sunday.<\/p>\n
National men's singles coach, Indra Gunawan, agreed saying
\nplayers should not expect any bonuses if though they would
\nprobably get them.<\/p>\n
\"The most important thing is to finish their job at the two
\ntournaments and then think of the bonus. The players must try
\nhard to recapture the Sudirman Cup,\" Indra said.<\/p>\n
The Badminton Association of Indonesia's (PBSI) chairman,
\nSoerjadi, said during the federation's anniversary celebration
\nthat several sponsors had already prepared player bonuses for the
\nSudirman Cup and world championship.<\/p>\n
But Soerjadi did not say how much the bonuses would be.<\/p>\n
\"It will be decided before the players depart for Glasgow,
\nScotland, on May 15.\"<\/p>\n
The two tournaments will be in Glasgow with the Sudirman Cup
\nfrom May 19 to May 25 and the world championships from May 26 to
\nJune 1.<\/p>\n
Six countries will contest the Sudirman Cup. They are
\ndefending champion China, Indonesia, Denmark, South Korea,
\nEngland and Sweden.<\/p>\n
The Cup was named after Indonesian badminton's founding father
\nwho was at the helm of the PBSI for decades and steered the sport
\nto bigger international scene.<\/p>\n
PBSI named 31 players for the Sudirman Cup and world
\nchampionships. Joko Suprianto is Indonesia's hope to lead the
\nmixed-team Sudirman Cup and win the championship title.<\/p>\n
Joko, Indra Wijaya, Hariyanto Arbi, Alan Budikusuma, Budi
\nSantoso will compete in the men's singles. Mia Audina, Susi
\nSusanti, Meiluawati and Cindana will contest the women's singles.<\/p>\n
Chandra Wijaya\/Sigit Budiarto, Ricky Subagja\/Rexy Mainaky,
\nAntonius\/Denny Kantono and Tony Gunawan\/Victor Wibowo in the
\nmen's doubles. Eliza\/Zelin Rosiana, Indarti Isolina\/Deyana Lomban
\nand Etty Tantri\/Cynthia will play in the women's doubles.<\/p>\n
Tri Kusherjanto\/Minarti Timur, Imam Tohari\/Emma Ermawati,
\nSandiarto\/Finarsih and Flandy Limpele\/Etty Tantri will team up in
\nthe mixed doubles.<\/p>\n
Minarni said he hoped Indonesia's players could prove they
\nwere still the world's best.<\/p>\n
\"The players should show their motivation and confidence to
\nwin and not have any burden on their minds. Let us look at the
\nUber Cup where we took the Cup because of our strong motivation,\"<\/p>",
