Shuttlers evaluated at Junior Indonesia Open<\/p>\n

SURAKARTA, Central Java (JP): Indonesian junior shuttlers will
\nuse the US$9,000 Milo Junior Indonesia Open as one of their
\npreparatory events for the Asian Junior Championships in Taipei
\nin July.<\/p>\n
\"The players have been in the Indonesian Badminton Center for
\nthree months. We really expect them to do well here,\" team
\nmanager Joko Suprianto told a press conference on Monday.<\/p>\n
\"The tournament will serve as part of the selection process
\nfor the Taipei Asian Junior Championships team and also to
\nevaluate their progress during training at the center.\"<\/p>\n
\"Their performance in Taipei will also be evaluated,\" said
\nJoko, who is also the juniors' coach.<\/p>\n
The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) official in
\ncharge of athletes development, Mangombar Ferdinand Siregar, PBSI
\nreferee Julius Tetelepta, PT Gematama Kreasindo president
\ndirector Minarni Soedarjanto and PT Nestle Indonesia AVP Public
\nRelations Brata T. Hardjosubroto were also present at the press
\nbriefing.<\/p>\n
Asked if the PBSI would discharge shuttlers who put in poor
\nshowings during the event or recruit new talents, Joko said the
\ndecision did not rest with the coaches alone.<\/p>\n
\"The PBSI has a talent-scouting team that is responsible for
\nassessing all promising players here and at other tournaments.
\nBasically, we must give the juniors more chances to compete.\"<\/p>\n
Siregar called on PBSI chapters to establish their own
\ntraining centers to boost the number of local competitions.<\/p>\n
\"By having more training centers, we can have more players and
\ncompetitions in the country. It's really important to accelerate
\nthe juniors' progress by fielding them together with seniors in
\nimportant events, including the Sudirman Cup.\"<\/p>\n
Siregar said China and South Korea had fielded their juniors
\nin the World Junior Championships in Guangzhou, China, and in the
\njust concluded Sudirman Cup in Seville, Spain.<\/p>\n
Joko regretted the sparsity of foreign shuttlers at the event,
\nsaying that the level of competition was not as high as expected
\nearlier.<\/p>\n
\"Indonesian shuttlers are still expected to reach their best
\nform, especially the seeds.\"<\/p>\n
Malaysia made a last-minute withdrawal last Friday although
\nits shuttlers were seeded in the event.<\/p>\n
\"We won't change the drawing. The players who are supposed to
\nmeet the Malaysians will get byes in the first round. We are not
\nreplacing them with other players,\" Julius said. \"All the team
\nmanagers agreed to this during the technical meeting.\"<\/p>\n
Siregar said the PBSI would wait for the official report on
\nthe withdrawal and submit it to the International Badminton
\nFederation.<\/p>\n
\"It's up to the IBF to penalize Malaysia for their late
\nwithdrawal. We've never encountered a similar case like this
\nbefore.\"<\/p>",
