Leo<\/p>\n<p>Other parts of the country may garner more recognition, but the<br>\narts and handicrafts of the Alor people are also worthy of<br>\nattention.<\/p>\n<p>The local administration of the regency in East Nusa Tenggara<br>\nrecently organized a handicraft expo in Kalabahi, the regency<br>\ncapital.<\/p>\n<p>Regent Ansgerius Takalapeta said the event was aimed at<br>\nmotivating local people to continue and preserve traditional<br>\nhandicrafts as a means to uphold their identity.<\/p>\n<p>Alor is known for its version of the traditional ikat woven<br>\ncloth, but other events held in conjunction with the expo<br>\nincluded dance performances, an archery competition and a seminar<br>\non traditional cloth.<\/p>\n<p>A unique event was a seminar on moko (a bronze kettledrum),<br>\nbelieved to date back to wares found in China in 300 BC but now a<br>\nspecial heirloom passed down over the generations.<\/p>",
