        "content": "<p>A proposal for the Election Bill to become a government initiative\nhas emerged but was rejected by PDIP\u2019s Deputy Chairman and Commission II\nDPR member Deddy Sitorus. So, which is better?<\/p>\n<p>Executive Director of the Indonesian Political Parameters (PPI) Adi\nPrayitno believes the Election Bill must be recognised as the life and\ndeath of political parties. Therefore, he says, the DPR should be more\naggressive in initiating the Election Bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt must be acknowledged that the election law is indeed the life and\ndeath of political parties. Whatever the title\u2014presidential elections or\nlegislative elections\u2014the key lies in political parties. The DPR should\nbe more aggressive in discussing the Election Law,\u201d said Adi Prayitno\nwhen contacted on Sunday (10\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>He assesses that many matters will be discussed in the Election Law,\nsuch as parliamentary thresholds to electoral district issues. According\nto him, the issues in the Election Law are very close to parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause in the Election Law, many crucial issues will be discussed,\nsuch as parliamentary thresholds, vote conversion methods, multi-member\nelectoral districts, money politics, and so on. These issues are very\nclose to parties,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Adi believes there will be interests of several parties\nthat are not well accommodated if the bill becomes a government\ninitiative. Moreover, not all political parties are part of the\ncoalition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly, the DPR\u2019s issues are all about party people. Usually, party\ninterest battles also occur in the DPR. If it\u2019s a government initiative,\nit\u2019s very possible that the interests of several parties won\u2019t be well\naccommodated.
