Good news for bargain hunters and collectors of Indonesian
\nhandicrafts.<\/p>\n
This week, the Plaza Atrium Shopping Center in Segitiga,
\nSenen, is hosting an Indonesian traditional arts and crafts
\nexhibition. The exhibition opens Tuesday, November 12, 1996, and
\nruns through Tuesday, November 19, 1996.<\/p>\n
Mulyasari, the exhibition coordinator, explained: \"This is a
\ngreat opportunity to view a wide variety of traditional
\nIndonesian products offered direct to the public at very
\nreasonable prices.\"<\/p>\n
Senen, Central Jakarta, is probably best known as Jakarta's
\nthriving gold-dealing district. A place where fine gold is
\nassayed, bought, sold and made into finely crafted jewelry.<\/p>\n
Plaza Atrium Shopping Center has one whole floor dedicated to
\nshops dealing in gold; A \"must-see\" for any visitor to Jakarta
\ninterested in buying genuine, top quality gold jewelry and gold
\nbullion.<\/p>\n
Plaza Atrium is fast developing a reputation for innovative
\nand professionally managed promotional events and exhibitions.
\nJust recently, the internationally famous Ripley's Believe It or
\nNot staged a very successful promotional event on the Plaza's
\nground floor. This was the first time it had been held in an
\nIndonesian shopping center.<\/p>\n
\"One of the main reasons our exhibitions and events are so
\nsuccessful is because we go to great lengths to create the right
\natmosphere,\" Mulyasari said.<\/p>\n
\"So, for example, during the Indonesian Arts and Crafts

Separately, but also a very significant event for the shopping
\ncenter, McDonald's recently opened on the ground floor of Atrium
\nPlaza.<\/p>\n
Significantly, McDonald's did not adopt the brightly lit
\nwestern interior that one normally associates with almost any
\nMcDonald's around the world.<\/p>\n
Instead, McDonald's have used elements of traditional Betawi
\narchitecture to create a unique local feel to the restaurant.
\nMcDonald's sensitivity to local culture in this location has, no
\ndoubt, allowed them to achieve greater acceptance among local
\ncustomers.<\/p>\n
Indeed, it is understood that as a result, McDonald's are
\nalready achieving an average daily turnover in excess of Rp 25
\nmillion at this new restaurant.<\/p>\n
