        "content": "<p>A student who orchestrated a deadly shooting at a secondary school in\nthe Philippines apparently broadcast his actions live via social media.\nThe motive behind the fatal shooting is still being investigated by\nlocal authorities.<\/p>\n<p>At least one student died, with the perpetrator committing suicide\nafter the attack.<\/p>\n<p>The shooting occurred at a secondary school within the Ateneo de\nZamboanga University complex, a private Catholic educational institution\nin western Mindanao, on Tuesday (18\/8) local time. This was the second\nshooting in the Philippines within a two-month period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, we know that the perpetrator went to the victim\u2019s classroom.\nHe shot the victim, and after that, he went up to the fifth floor and\nshot himself,\u201d said local police spokesperson Shella Chang, as reported\nby AFP on Tuesday (18\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Philippine Interior Secretary Victor Remulla, in a separate\nstatement, confirmed that the perpetrator \u2014 identified as a ninth-grade\nstudent \u2014 had live-streamed his actions on social media. The suspected\nperpetrator\u2019s Facebook account has now been deactivated.<\/p>\n<p>In video taken from the perpetrator\u2019s live stream, published by local\nmedia, a firearm barrel can be seen moving along the school corridor in\na first-person perspective reminiscent of a video game, before the\nweapon is aimed into a classroom and shots are fired.<\/p>\n<p>Children in school uniforms then screamed and appeared to run towards\nthe exit.<\/p>\n<p>It is not yet clear how many people were injured in the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The rector of Ateneo de Zamboanga, Father Guillrey Andal, confirmed\nthat two people died in the incident. He stated that the school was\n\u201cdeeply saddened\u201d by the shooting and is cooperating with the\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n<p>Andal acknowledged that the incident had caused \u201cprofound concern and\nanxiety\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Motive for Shooting Still Under Police Investigation<\/p>\n<p>The Philippine Department of the Interior said in a statement that\nthe National Police are working to \u201cuncover the motive behind the\nshooting, ascertain the ownership and origin of the firearm used\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs well as determine how the firearm was able to be brought into the\nschool environment,\u201d the Interior Ministry statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>Police have not yet released information regarding the ages of the\nperpetrator or the deceased victim.<\/p>\n<p>School shootings are relatively rare in the Philippines.
