        "content": "<p>Ships alerted to piracy threats<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Ships in Southeast Asia were alerted to<br>\nrenewed piracy threats yesterday after gun-wielding masked<br>\npirates hijacked a cargo vessel off Vietnam and escaped with its<br>\ncargo last week.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel, Lucky Trader, reported the pirates threatened the<br>\ncrew at gunpoint and took over the ship, said Beverley Brown, the<br>\nLondon-based International Maritime Bureau's regional manager<br>\nhere.<\/p>\n<p>After traveling for about 12 hours with the handcuffed crew,<br>\nthe pirates transferred the cargo of 7,400 cartons of cigarettes,<br>\nvaluables and communication equipment to another ship.<\/p>\n<p>One of the crew members later freed himself after the pirates<br>\nhad abandoned the ship. No one was reported hurt.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel returned to Singapore, where it had set sail on<br>\nFeb. 13, to lodge a report on Sunday, Brown said. The owner of<br>\nthe ship was not immediately known.<\/p>",
